Village to receive new outdoor play area

08/03/2010
Children in the village of Thorpe will soon be able to experience the benefits of outdoor play activities with a new facility.

StainesNews.co.uk reports that over £70,000 will be spent on developing the Frank Muir Memorial Field site in the village.

Once completed, facilities at the outdoor play area will include a swing, a tree-climbing activity, a skate park and a trampoline.
Children will also be able to walk a nature trail in one corner of the field.

The new facility has taken over two years to develop and is due to be opened in May.

Councillor Linda Gilham told the news provider: "Young people in the village have waited patiently for better facilities in Thorpe since they approached me two years ago ... the extra funding has given them more equipment to enjoy."

Play England recently released a report in which it claimed that outdoor play activities help reduce the chances of at risk children committing crimes or being involved in anti-social behaviour. It also claimed that outdoor play activities help children of all backgrounds to integrate.
