Trampoline saved teens from house fire

26/07/2010
Three teenagers used a garden trampoline to escape from a house fire in Higher Broughton, Manchester, in the early hours of July 23rd.

The two 16 year olds and one 17 year old were woken by smoke alarms and found themselves trapped on the third floor as a fire took hold of the property at 03:43 BST on Friday July 23rd, the Manchester Evening News has reported.

Encouraged by spectators, the trio jumped out of the window onto an outdoor trampoline in the property's back garden.

All the girls were taken to Hope hospital but none of them suffered life-threatening injuries.

Paul Duggan, spokesperson for the fire service, advised that self-rescue is a last resort and recommended that people should wait for emergency services whenever possible.

He added: "If there is no option other than to leave then people should lower themselves as far as they could before dropping down the face of a building."

In Dublin this summer, young people aged six to 18 can learn trampoline skills at a summer camp run by the University College Dublin, reported the Irish Times last week.ADNFCR-2359-ID-19907415-ADNFCR
