Council row over outdoor play activities
06/11/2009A family's row with their local council looks set to escalate after the council told them they had 28 days to remove their outdoor play equipment.
However, the three daughters in the Richardson family from Addington, have used a piece of government legislation to fight their case against the council, reports Kent Online.
Six years ago, the Richardson family, of London Road, Addington, put up a slide, swings and a trampoline on land which they own next to their back garden and were told that no planning application was needed.
However, Tonbridge and Malling Council has written to the family this month saying not only is permission needed, it is highly unlikely to be granted.
The daughters, Maxine, 15, Louise, 12 and nine-year-old Jessica told the news provider that they do not understand the move as their school has been promoting government policy on healthy eating and regular exercise and their local park is unfit to exercise in.
Louise told officials how she hopes to be a professional gymnast and practices all her moves on the trampoline. She added that her dream job is now in jeopardy if the equipment has to be taken down.
Exercising with a trampoline is a low-impact workout and can help the lymphatic system, according to fitmoves.com.
