Exercising outdoors 'is medicine'

09/09/2009
An expert in the US has reiterated a recent claim that exercise is medicine.

Doctors in the US are attempting to get the message across that people need to consider exercise outdoors or indoors as a form of medicine, reported Health magazine last week.

And now, Jordan Cieciwa, the owner of Professional Edge Fitness and Conditioning and an Ultimate Fighting Champion coach, says that rehabilitation-based exercise should be worked into everyday exercise, reports the Winnipeg Sun.

Mr Cieciwa said that exercise can reduce bad posture and help reduce mid-back pain and therefore let people sleep better.

He told the news provider: "Start to look at exercise as the answer. There's no time like the present to change your life."

Dr David N Westerdahl of the Cleveland Clinic in Weston said that: "Exercise truly is medicine."

He added that it can help people feel better, while helping treat a variety of medical conditions and also help prevent certain forms of cancer and other disease.
