Exercising outdoors even in small amounts can help weight loss

09/03/2010
Even the smallest amount of time spent exercising outdoors can help people lose weight, according to Slimming World.

Dr Jacquie Lavin, head of nutrition and research at Slimming World, said that no matter what changes people make to their lifestyle, in order to lose weight they must see them as a long-term commitment.

"So start walking more, take the stairs instead of the lift and clean the car rather than using a carwash. It all helps," she explained.

The comments come after a study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine found that women who consume moderate amounts of alcohol gained less weight than those who didn't.

According to the 13-year study of over 19,000 women in the US, the 38 per cent of participants who did not consume any alcohol were found to have put on more weight over the period.

Dr Lavin explained that women should not see wine as a way of losing weight but rather stick to healthy eating and exercising outdoors.
