102-year-old woman advocates trampoline exercise
01/02/2010 Keeping up an exercise routine, including jumping on a trampoline, has helped one woman in the US live to the age of 102, reports The Signal.
Ruth Johnston, from the Santa Clarity Valley in California, turned 102 last month and puts her long life down to many years of a healthy lifestyle and being happy.
The newspaper reports that there is still a set of dumbbells on Ms Johnston's living room chair, which is an "ode to [her] continued love of exercise".
"I've jumped rope, took classes, you name it and I've done it. When they said jumping on a trampoline was good for your heart, I bought one and did that, too," Ms Johnston explained.
She added that she doesn't drink caffeine, has never smoked and only drinks occasionally.
Trampoline exercise is known to have a number of benefits. As well as improving overall body fitness, it helps improve balance, coordination and helps stimulate the lymphatic system, which can boost the body's immunity to illness.
