Adults 'not exercising outdoors enough'
21/04/2010 Inactive adults are putting their health at risk due not exercising outdoors enough, it has been claimed.
According to a recent article in the North West Evening Mail, statistic show that 80 per cent of adults are not getting the recommended three 30-minute exercise sessions each week.
In response to this, health chiefs in Cumbria have launched the new 3x30 campaign in a bid to encourage more people to exercise outdoors, even if it just involves simple measures like walking to work or doing some gardening.
"In Cumbria, we're in a county with such a fantastic landscape and so many opportunities for people to be physically active at no or low cost and one of the activities people say they could do a lot more of is simply walking," Cathy Wynne, associate director of public health partnerships in Cumbria, told the news provider.
A new programme was recently announced in Wales with the aim of getting more children to take part in regular exercise.
The Mend (Mind, Exercise, Nutrition... Do It!) is designed to show kids exercise can also be fun.
