Amir Khan urges parents to promote benefits of outdoor play
09/02/2011 Mums and dads across Britain "have a big part" to play in getting their children interested in sport and outdoor play activities, such as trampolines for the garden, according to the boxer Amir Khan.
The World Boxing Association champion and British Asian Sports Awards ambassador said that young people represent the "future of sport" and it is parent's responsibility to promote the benefits of outdoor play.
"My parents [have] supported me since the age of eight in boxing and look where I am now. And [to] think[that] without them I wouldn't be in this position," Mr Khan said.
He believes that, with the 2012 London Olympics fast approaching, now is the ideal time for families to get involved with sport and fitness activities at a local level – and garden trampolines could be a good starting point.
Last month, writing on his blog, online expert Jonas Schroeder urged households to invest in trampolines for the garden, suggesting that the bouncy apparatus was among the most enjoyable ways to feel the benefits of outdoor play.
