Autistic youngsters to benefit from new trampoline facilities
29/12/2009 Autistic youngsters in Hampshire will be benefiting from new equipment, including a giant trampoline, reports thisishampshire.net.
The website reports that the Hampshire Autistic Society has invested a grant from Gannett Foundation into two new swings and a trampoline. The motions created while using the equipment will be used to calm the children who suffer from anxiety in some social situations.
Sally Hillyear, fundraising manager at the Hampshire Autistic Society, told the newspaper: "This provides a safer environment than going out to a park. It will be staffed so we can supervise the youngsters on it and hopefully it will help them to eventually integrate into a public park environment."
She added that the facilities will also be used to help the families of autistic children.
Last week it was reported in the Daily Herald, that a music teacher from the Chicago area was using a trampoline in her lessons to help her pupils with special needs to concentrate.
The benefits of exercising on a trampoline for children include an increased self awareness and better balance and co ordination.
