Breathing exercises 'help improve endurance' when exercising outdoors on a trampoline
03/09/2010 Breathing exercises can help those exercising outdoors on a trampoline to train harder.
According to a fitness expert, the exercises improve the effectiveness of the intercostals muscles between the ribs.
Breathing exercises also help improve the flexibility of the rib cage itself, Robin Gargrave, executive director at YMCA Fitness Industry Training, explained to the Daily Mail.
"The best thing is that they can be done any time, any place, anywhere," he told the paper.
Lung capacity can be increased by up to ten per cent in 12 weeks if active breathing exercises are performed for just two minutes, five times a day.
To carry out a breathing exercise, inhale deeply through the nose for a count of three, squeezing down through the diaphragm for two seconds, then exhale forcefully for three.
Mr Gargrave warns that the exercise should not be done too fast and if it leads to light-headedness then you should revert to normal breathing.
Taking deep breaths is also one of the simplest and easiest ways to relieve stress, according to Thehappyguy.com.
