Canada trampoline team celebrate Portugal success
21/09/2009 The Canadian trampoline team took gold at an international event in Portugal last week.
Gillian Bruce of Calgary helped the team to gold and added an individual bronze in the double mini trampoline event on Saturday September 19th at the Loule Cup.
The Canadian men eventually took team silver.
Ms Bruce was joined on the squad by Chelsea Nerpio of Richmond, Corissa Boychuk of Airdrie, and Julie Warnock of Calgary.
England was second and another English squad was third.
Bruce said that competing at the event was important for team bonding and for practice, but that it was not a regular fixture on the team's calendar.
"It was really important to get in a team event like this just before the world championships (in November),'' said Bruce.
In the women's double mini trampoline final, Robyn Osborne, now of England but who grew up in Nova Scotia, came second behind Ana Simoes of Portugal.
In November, the world's best trampolinists will gather in St Petersburg, Russia, for the trampoline and tumbling world championships.
