Cardiff trampoline fans win competition places
16/03/2010 Athletes in Cardiff have made some top sporting achievements with trampolines over the past few weeks, it has been reported.
February 14th saw Helen Showan take first place in the British Universities Colleges & Sports (BUCS) competition regional qualifier, while Lizzie Mansell also got into the finals by finishing in tenth place.
Ms Mansell wrote for Gair Rhydd that BUCS "was the biggest competition of the year with a whopping 150 competitors from over ten universities. The Cardiff squad hit the south coast with force, winning one first and two third places from six crowded categories".
The University of Bath Trampoline Open taking place a week later also saw success for Cardiff youngsters, with Mike Thompson winning a second place medal in the novice category, with Brian Dias close behind in fourth place.
BUCS, which is introducing trampoline events at its championship for the first time this year, was recently given £10 million of lottery funding to get more students involved in playing sport.
