09/11/2009 Four top gymnasts are setting off to Russia to try and make a name for themselves on the world stage.
The stars from Castle Hill Gymnastic Club have headed off to compete in the World Trampoline Championships and the World Age Games in St Petersburg, Russia, reports the Hillshire Times.
Damian Ryan, 26, from Castle Hill and Bethany Bailey, 19, from Kenthurst will be representing Australia in the championships, which began on Saturday (November 7th).
Matthew Weal, 15, and Dominic Clarke, 12, will compete in the World Age Games for the first time.
Castle Hill Gymnastics Club head trampoline coach Belinda Cox has accompanied the four athletes to Russia as an Australian representative judge for both events.
Ms Cox is under no illusions as to how much of a challenge it will be for the youngsters.
She told the news provider: "It is expected to be a very tough competition as the highly competitive Russians will have the home-ground advantage in the minus temperatures predicted in St Petersburg throughout November."
The World Age Games run almost side by side with the 26th Trampoline World Championships, the first of which was held in London in 1964.
