Champion swapped trampoline for ski's
31/07/2009 Jacqui Cooper, Australia's aerial ski champion is a walking, or skiing testament to the fact that using a trampoline is one of the best forms of exercise.
The champion is busy preparing for her fifth attempt at Winter Olympic gold, but she has been reminiscing about her early days on a trampoline, and how it actually thanks to a trampoline that she is where she is now, reports ninemsn.com.
Despite a glittering career spanning more than two decades, Cooper has missed at four attempts at the Games but is confident heading into the 2010 Winter Olympics.
She told the news provider: "Although I didn't win in Torino, I set a new record, and everyone was watching. So people know, and I don't need a medal to prove anything to anybody."
Cooper did not begin skiing until she was 16, after being noticed on a trampoline by Geoff Lipshut, the then chief executive officer of the Australian Olympic Committee.
"I watched the Moscow Olympics when I was seven and I told my sisters I wanted to be part of it," Cooper said.
"I was never enrolled in gymnastics class but always made friends with people who had trampolines and found a local trampoline at Brighton (Melbourne), where Geoff found me."
The Winter Olympics will run from February 12th to February 28th next year and will be based in Vancouver, Canada.
