Charity gets cash for new trampoline
23/04/2010 Edgbaston's Autism West Midlands has received funding of almost £800 to buy a new trampoline.
The cash comes from Moseley Round Table's 10 for 2010 give-away and will be used to buy a high quality trampoline which can be used as part of therapy sessions for people with autism, reports Community Newswire.
Speaking to the news provider, Eve Matthews, manager at Autism West Midlands' Oakfield House, said: "We had already raised £200 for the trampoline through a sponsored walk, but it has been absolutely fantastic as the Round Table actually funded the full amount - £799 - meaning that we can use the leftover money to build a sensory garden."
She added that trampolines are very calming for people with autism, and also provide them with some good exercise and help address balance issues.
Shara Davis, a specialist at the Alight Paediatric Therapy Clinic in Texas, recently told the Herald-Zeitung that equipment such as trampolines and swings can improve a number of autism symptoms.
