Children 'need outdoor play for wellbeing'
14/07/2009 Outdoor play is essential for a good childhood from a development and well-being perspective, it has been claimed.
A spokesperson for Play England, an organisation which promotes the benefits of outdoor play, said adults needed to make time and space for children to play freely.
She added: "In previous Playday research, 71 per cent of adults surveyed said they played in their local area every day as a child compared to 21 per cent of children today.
"This is what we aim to highlight with our Make time! campaign which is being launched as part of Playday, the annual celebration of children's right to play, this August."
According to Surf Net Parents, outdoor toys are the perfect way to encourage the kids outside into the garden for some exercise.
The site recently claimed that by investing in outdoor play equipment for the kids, parents not only encourage active lifestyles, but help them get the exercise they need to stay healthy and strong.
