Children encouraged to take part in trampoline courses
13/01/2010 Children in Swansea will now have the chance to take part in trampoline courses as part of a scheme to increase participation in sports, reports newswales.co.uk.
The Active Swansea programme has led to the availability of 188 more places on gymnastics-based courses across the area. These include spaces on trampoline courses at Cefn Hengoed Leisure Centre and Pentrehafod Sports Centre.
Dave Osborne, Swansea Council's indoor leisure manager, explained that the benefits of taking part in gymnastics were far ranging and include improved self confidence.
He said: "Participation in gymnastics also develops body awareness, strength, flexibility, control and co-ordination and these attributes can be drawn upon in other sports as well as in everyday life."
It is hoped that the 2012 London Olympics will encourage more children to get involved in trampolining and gymnastics. The trampoline World Championships are also being held in the UK in 2011 and should "inspire all young hopefuls to reach for the stars and achieve their goals", according to Trampoline News.
