Cosmetic surgery 'no replacement for exercising outdoors'
15/03/2010 Exercising outdoors is an important part of losing weight and cosmetic surgery should not be seen as a replacement for a healthy lifestyle, according to one expert.
Shami Thomas, a spokesperson for cosmetic surgery group Transform, said that it is a "misconception" that procedures such as liposuction and tummy tucks can make you thin and produce the same effects as exercising outdoors.
"Cosmetic surgery would complement diet and exercise. Liposuction and tummy tucks are good for shaping the body rather than losing large amounts of weight," she explained.
Ms Thomas added that unless people exercise they will not have as much 'tone or firmness' to their body.
The comments come after a survey by goodsurgeonguide.co.uk found that 78 per cent of women believed that cosmetic surgery would produce immediate results.
Of the 1,305 people asked, over half said that they would rather have surgery than spend time exercising outdoors and eating healthily to lose weight.
However, many exercises have further benefits than simply helping people shed excess pounds. Jumping on a trampoline stimulates the lymphatic system, which also helps rid the body of toxins.
