Create a dedicated space for outdoor play activities
07/04/2010 Parents should allocate dedicated space for outdoor play activities within their garden to help keep their family fit and healthy, according to one advice blog.
Housework24.com said that creating a space where kids know that they can climb, jump and tumble will encourage them to take part in outdoor play activities without making a major change to their daily routine.
Other advice included starting a log for each member of the family, documenting their exercise each day and taking turns to pick a special physical activity each week.
"Limit time spent watching television programs, videotapes and playing computer games, and use physical activity rather than food as a reward," the blog suggested.
Writing for the Daily Mirror last month, Dr Miriam Stoppard said that parents should consider investing in a mini trampoline to encourage their children to get active.
She suggested placing it in front of the TV so children can bounce away while watching their favourite programmes.
