Ease into exercising outdoors for summer
30/03/2010 Those who cannot wait to exercise outdoors now that the summer is approaching have been advised to take their time making the transition to the garden or park.
According to health expert Jill Barker, fitness fans should not start off exactly where they left their training routines last summer, but need to gradually return to outdoor activity in order to get used to the sun.
Writing for the Province, Ms Barker suggested that exercise regimes are not made more intense or frequent by any more than ten per cent each week and time should be given to allow muscles to recuperate.
"Tempering the enthusiasm that comes from peeling off your winter layers isn't easy - especially when the sun is shining and the temperature is inching upwards," she added.
Steve Halsall, Mirror.co.uk fitness expert and fitness entrepreneur, also said that those who want to start exercising outdoors should "walk before they run", building up the amount of time spent on their exercise regime to ensure it is not too intense.
