Exercising outdoors: Sun safety messages 'getting through'
13/04/2011 An expert has said that messages about the importance of sun protection when exercising outdoors, perhaps with trampolines for the garden, are "slowly but surely" getting through to more people.
Bevis Man, of the British Skin Foundation, highlighted the fact that in recent decades incidence rates of malignant melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, have significantly risen in the UK.
He suggested, however, that families are increasingly aware of what they need to do to stay safe from the summer rays while exercising outdoors or using garden trampolines during the warm weather.
"Slowly but surely the sun safety messages are getting through, but that’s not a sign that we should be complacent about it," Mr Man asserted.
The expert went on to advise anyone noticing changes to their skin to visit their GP for peace of mind that no possible signs of skin cancer are present.
Meanwhile, writing for his Daily Mirror blog this week, celebrity dad Jeff Brazier has recommended trampolines for the garden as a fun way to get the kids exercising outdoors this spring.
