Exercising outdoors 'adds variety to gym routine'
12/04/2010 Brits who regularly visit the gym should think about exercising outdoors to add variety to their routine, according to one expert.
Rich Leigh, weight loss expert and founder of fatfreefitness.co.uk, said that many gym-goers become stuck in a rut which can leave them "bored and disheartened".
"In the gym it is quite a stifled environment sometimes ... If you can find a partner to go training with outdoors, it can be quite sociable too," he added.
Mr Leigh advised people to change their routine if they feel it is ineffective and set themselves smart goals and achievable targets.
Alison Carnage, spokesperson for Alzheimer's Research Trust, said recently that exercising outdoors can help people reduce their chances of developing a number of serious diseases, including dementia, heart disease and strokes.
She was commenting on the results of a recent study by the University of Edinburgh which found that those who maintain a healthy lifestyle in their forties and fifties can lower their risk of developing Alzheimer's later in life.
