Exercising outdoors 'could prevent cancer'
16/12/2010 Families keen to improve their overall health for the new year have been urged to make better lifestyle choices, which could include buying trampolines for the garden and exercising outdoors.
Dr Ian Lewis, head of research at the Tenovus charity, said: "It is quite concerning that a third of all people still think that cancer is completely due to chance, despite many awareness campaigns run by government and charity."
He was commenting on a recent survey by Cancer Research UK, which revealed that in spite of cancer being the nation's biggest fear, one in three people believes that contracting the disease is purely down to fate.
Dr Lewis suggested that around half of all cancers could actually be prevented if families made better lifestyle choices, such as exercising outdoors with trampolines for the garden.
Meanwhile, the Department of Health has announced that funding of more than £25 million will be made available over the next two years to help GPs gain access to additional tests for cancer.
