Exercising outdoors and healthy eating 'helps mums lose weight'
27/01/2010 Getting the whole family involved in eating healthily and exercising outdoors is a great way for mums to shed excess pounds.
According to Dr Jacquie Lavin, head of nutrition and research at Slimming World, getting in shape doesn't have to mean heading down to the gym. She believes that the best way for a mother to try and lose weight is by finding an exercise which fits in with their daily routine.
"Once mums have had children, following a sensible sustainable eating plan and enjoying moderate physical activity regularly can help them to lose any excess weight and keep it off. It's also great to get the whole family involved," she explained.
Activities which the whole family can get involved in include swimming, walking to school or the shops and jumping on a trampoline.
A recent study published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine revealed that married women are on average 4lbs heavier than those the same age that are not. Women with babies are 9lb heavier on average than their single counterparts.
