Exercising outdoors encouraged for Welsh families
07/02/2011 Households across Wales are being urged to spend more time feeling the benefits of outdoor play, by exercising outdoors – perhaps a good reason to buy trampolines for the garden online.
As part of a nationwide pledge to boost the country's physical activity, Sport Wales has outlined the cultural shifts that are needed to get families taking steps to improve their health, WalesOnline reported.
Laura McAllister, Sport Wales chairman, said that the organisation wanted the whole nation to feel the benefits of outdoor play.
"We want every child and young person to be able to access at least five hours of sport every week," she explained, before highlighting the importance of families and communities exercising outdoors together.
Ms McAllister suggested that people were more likely to achieve their fitness goals by participating in outdoor play activities as a group.
This may encourage parents to buy trampolines for the garden, allowing their children to feel the benefits of outdoor play with friends.
Last week, writing for the Daily Mirror, Sally Janes noted that one in three primary school pupils is currently overweight, highlighting the need for kids to spend more time exercising.
