Funds used to improve outdoor play area
28/06/2010 Children at a nursery near Northallerton are feeling the benefits of outdoor play activities thanks to new additions to their playground.
A grant from the Hambleton District Council and funds raised by the local community were used to extend and refurbish the area at Brompton School foundation unit, the Northern Echo reports.
Overall the project to improve the area for outdoor play activates cost in excess of £3,000 and the children which attend the nursery have already set to work planting seeds and growing plants.
Ce Vasey, chairwoman of the Friends of Brompton School, expressed her thanks for the grant from the local council and said she was grateful to all those who were involved in the project.
"The children love all the improvements, especially the stage, and they're looking forward to watching all their plants grow," she told the news provider.
Outdoor play activities are known to have a number of benefits for children in terms of both physical and emotional development.
Just last week the Castlemere Sure Start Children's Centre opened its new area for outdoor play activities in Rochdale with an open afternoon for parents and children under five.
