Garden trampolines 'an affordable way to get fit'
07/01/2011 Families keen to lead healthier lifestyles in 2011 may want to consider exercising outdoors on garden trampolines, as one expert suggests ways to improve the household's fitness without spending too much money.
According to Harry MacMillan, chief executive of MEND, a social enterprise which provides free, local healthy living programmes for families, said that cooking from meals and avoiding fatty snacks is a cost-saving way to start.
"Swap white bread and rice for wholegrain as it's not only more nutritious but also more filling, so you're less likely to snack between meals," he added.
Parents might also want to consider ways in which their kids could be encouraged to start exercising outdoors, with trampolines for the garden just one fun play activity that could help.
Research from Jenny Craig recently found that setting a good example to children, comments from other people and not being able to wear fashionable clothes are the top reasons for UK adults wanting to lose weight in 2011.
