Growing concerns about lack of outdoor play activities
30/04/2010 More parents are becoming concerned that their children are not taking part in enough outdoor play activities, according to one expert.
Susan Linn, director of the Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood, told the Associated Press that it is a problem she has encountered across the US.
"There is a growing movement of parents who are concerned and are trying to figure out how to get their kids outside," she told the news provider.
One expert added that outdoor play activities are important for sensory development.
Rosemarie Truglio, a Sesame Workshop vice president, said that it is important for parents to engage their children in activities which help them to be creative and use their senses.
Mums and dads were advised to restrict the amount of time kids spend in front of a computer or TV screen and then match this time with hours spent outdoors.
Dr Mark Tremblay, chief scientific officer of Active Healthy Kids Canada, explained earlier this week that outdoor play activities are important for healthy child development.
