Jon Beck enters trampoline Hall of Fame
02/10/2009The mother of Jon Beck claims that gymnastics saved his life, or their house.
Betty Standridge said that her son was so hyperactive that he would have ended up pulling down their house or dying.
Jon Beck, who was last week entered into the World Acrobatics Society Hall of Fame in Las Vegas, had been pushed from the sporting pillar to post by his mother, who was keen to get rid of some of his energy, reports Amarillo.com.
"He was real hyper," she told the news provider. "I put him in every sport possible. Then I put him in gymnastics hoping that would take the hyperactivity out of him - and he just loved it."
Beck went on to win world titles in power tumbling and trampoline and has now been coaching for nearly 20 years, and is on the national coaching staff of USA Gymnastics.
"At his peak, nobody in the world could touch him," said Tim Hall, owner and coach at All-American Gymnastics in Amarillo.
"He was like a cat, always landing on his feet."
In August, Pat Wilson Henderson received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the USA Gymnastics Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Dallas for her contributions to the sport.
