Kids need fresh air and outdoor play for healthy eyes
02/03/2011 Parents have been reminded of several eye health essentials, which may encourage more families to buy trampolines for the garden and start feeling the benefits of outdoor play.
Tony Veverka, chief executive at laser treatment specialist Ultralase, explained how regular eye exams are important for maintaining healthy vision, but there are other less obvious steps which can help.
"With the increasing use of computers, it's a very good idea to take regular breaks from computer screen work, as the eyes can become dry and irritated," he said.
He went on to highlight the need to also get plenty of fresh air, which could be achieved by exercising outdoors on trampolines for the garden.
Mr Veverka added that one of the benefits of outdoor play is that clean air "helps with the essential natural balances in your eyes".
Adults and children should therefore ensure that their family lifestyle incorporates a "reasonable amount of time outdoors", he concluded.
Earlier this week, celebrity fitness trainer Steve Halsall said that, with the number of low-cost outdoor play activities available to households in Britain, there was "no excuse" for people not to be exercising regularly.
