London council to boost outdoor play activities
20/10/2010 A major improvement to outdoor play activities and leisure facilities in West Ealing has been announced this week, as councillors unveiled plans to spend £500,000 on a new scheme to get kids exercising outdoors.
According to the Ealing Gazette, the project will combine a skate park with state-of-the-art outdoor play activities and equipment, designed to help young people feel the benefits of outdoor play.
With the plans approved, the council will start by building the £200,000 skateboarding park for younger people of all age groups to enjoy, next to the Gurnell Leisure Centre.
"There will be plenty to do in the new park, whether you're on a skate-board or just fancy an afternoon out with the children," said Kamaljit Dhindsa, cabinet member for customer and community service.
Other developments will include the creation of a multi-use games area and a range of specially-designed outdoor play activities.
Earlier this month, TheSchoolRun.com suggested that rising sales of trampolines were testament to parents wanting their children to start exercising outdoors, but in a safe way.
