Mini trampoline exercise 'suitable for all ages'
10/05/2010 Exercise on mini trampolines is suitable for people off all ages if conducted properly, according to one expert.
Terrell Pruitt, a rebounding instructor for US fitness chain Crunch, told Reuters that participants in his classes range between the ages of 20 and 80.
He said that once people get used to exercising on a mini trampoline, they find it hard to give up.
Mr Pruitt explained to the news provider that one of the best things about trampoline exercise was that it is easy on the joints.
"Your workout is actually pushing down, not going up. You bounce, you don't jump. You're pushing down, fighting gravity, abs engaged, knees bent in a power stance," he said.
However, Pete McCall, an exercise physiologist with the American Council on Exercise, cautioned against using a large 12ft trampoline for rebounding exercises.
He explained that those looking to learn how to use a large trampoline should have the proper coaching before attempting any tricks, while mini trampolines are used mainly for aerobic exercise.
Writing for Journal Live, David Fairlamb recently suggested that mini trampolines could be used as part of a body sculpting workout at home.
