Mini trampolines 'could benefit older people'

22/12/2009
Older people could benefit from exercising on a mini trampoline, according to the writer of a life and wellness coaching blog.

An article on thecoachingpair.com describes how the writer's mother-in-law, who was in her seventies at the time, was using a mini trampoline as far back as 20 years ago to improve her fitness and help keep her weight down.

The writer said: "Rebounding is a safe, gentle, and no-impact exercise, making it suitable for any age group. Bouncing on a mini trampoline or rebounder is now widely recognized for its significant health benefits."

Evidence of the increasing popularity of mini trampolines can be seen in the recent announcement made by celebrity Mandy Moore.

In an interview with Shape magazine she said that one of her new year's resolutions is to jump on her mini trampoline for 15 minutes each day.

Experts estimate that ten minutes spent on a trampoline provides the same health benefits as half an hour spent running. Exercise on a trampoline is extremely low impact as the trampoline absorbs 80 per cent of the energy from the bounce.
