More Brits choose exercising outdoors over gym in 2010
11/01/2010 Exercising outdoors and other inexpensive ways of keeping fit are becoming increasingly popular, according to moneysupermarket.com.
Despite most people vowing to try and stay fit and healthy as a new year's resolution Brits are increasingly finding gym membership an unnecessary cost, compared with the free forms of exercise which can be had outdoors.
Almost half of people surveyed thought the gym was a waste of money, up from just 12 per cent one year ago.
Emma Walker, head of protection at moneysupermarket.com, said: "New year is often the time when people make promises to themselves to be healthier, but with gym membership costing as much as £500 a year, people are reviewing their disposable income and deciding they simply cannot afford the costs this year."
The Independent recently recommending investing in some home exercise equipment as a comparatively cheap way of keeping fit. With some models costing under £60, a mini trampoline could be the ideal piece of equipment for those hoping to get fit on a budget.
