More families buy trampolines and outdoor toys online
28/03/2011 Research has shown a dramatic increase in web searches for outdoor play activities, including trampolines for the garden, as parents rush to get their kids exercising outdoors for summer.
According to a study by shopping search engine Twenga, online enquiries for more traditional outdoor play games, like sandpits, roller skates and water guns increased substantially this month, compared with February data.
The website found that searches for kids' bikes had rocketed by more than 90 per cent, while trampolines for the garden also proved to be one of the most popular outdoor play activities, enjoying an 88 per cent month-on-month boost.
Twenga's findings follow a study conducted at the University of Edinburgh this month, which found that despite making healthier lifestyle choices in some areas, Britain's young people have not been spending enough time exercising outdoors.
Researchers found that while the number of teens who regularly drink alcohol and smoke cigarettes has fallen since 2002, many 11 to 15 year olds are struggling to meet recommended levels of physical exercise.
