More fathers involved in outdoor play activities
30/03/2010 Fathers are increasingly taking part in outdoor play activities with their children, according to the Independent.
The newspaper reported on the growing popularity of dads-only playgroups which it said are popping up in London as traditional gender roles change.
It suggested that as more women go out to work, fathers spend their days looking after the children but often feel isolated in mainly female playgroups.
Adrienne Burgess, head of research at the Fatherhood Institute, told the newspaper: "These are pioneering fathers, creating a space for dads and children, where it is the norm for dads to be involved."
She added that the playgroups can be "very invigorating and empowering".
Advice for those looking to set up their own groups included making sure they stay open for outdoor play activities during the school holidays, organising a football team or regular get-togethers and keeping their website up to date to attract more people.

Research by Play England found that 83 per cent of parents believe that the government should introduce legislation to promote play.
