New centre brings outdoor play to Loughborough
09/12/2010 Children at a playgroup in Loughborough are set to feel the benefits of outdoor play, after a £250,000 investment in new equipment.
Robert Bakewell Playgroup, first established 25 years ago, was previously operating from two separate buildings – a run-down prefab unit and a nearby primary school's community centre, the Loughborough Echo reported.
However, after securing a £250,000 government grant, a new state-of-the-art facility has been built, including a sensory room and outdoor play equipment.
Maureen Smith, who runs the playgroup with Sarah Hickinbottom, told the newspaper that the old building had been "reaching the end of its life".
"We never thought we would get this money so we were absolutely thrilled when we did. It's a fantastic building, the children and staff love it and that's what it's all about. It is a dream come true," she added.
Earlier this month, the Wiltshire Times announced that plans for a range of new outdoor play equipment had been approved in Seven Fields, Penhill.
