New facility in Harpenden to provide benefits of outdoor play
11/02/2010 Children in Harpenden will soon get to experience the benefits of outdoor play with the opening of a new facility.
The St Albans and Harpenden Review reports that funding from a local consortium means that an area of disused land will now be converted into an area for outdoor play activities.
Once complete, facilities at the play area will include a zip wire, basket swing and wooden climbing frame, with the option of installing more at a later date.
Chris Grey, chairman of Batford Community Action Group, said: "A great deal of thought has gone into the design of the park, taking into account the children's ideas and making it fully inclusive to make sure it really is what the community really wants."
Parentline Plus said recently that involving children in play activities is important for their development.
The organisation believes that social and communication skills can be enhanced through play activities which provide "the opportunity for children to build relationships with other children and adults".
