New gym encourages exercising outdoors
20/04/2010 A new open-air gym in north Lincolnshire is encouraging children to get some outdoors exercise.
The adiZone gym, which is located in Manor Park Scunthorpe, includes the latest outdoor gym equipment, a climbing wall, running machine and basketball court, reports This is Scunthorpe.
Speaking to the news provider, Olympic boxing hopeful Luke Campbell said: "I think it is absolutely brilliant. I wish the parks were like this when I was younger, it is fantastic.
"Hopefully this will encourage children to take sport more seriously and who know it could inspire the Olympic hopefuls of the future."
His teammate Warren Baister added that he hopes the facility will entice youngsters away from their computers and TVs and encourage them to get some outdoors exercise.
Earlier this month, Tam Fry, trustee of the National Obesity Forum and chairman of the Child Growth Foundation, said too few people spend their time exercising outdoors.
