Nickelodeon encourages kids to take part in outdoor play activities
27/09/2010 Children across the globe were encouraged to turn off their TV's last Saturday and take part in outdoor play activities.
The TV channel Nickelodeon held its seventh annual Worldwide Day of Play on September 25th, where some of the station's biggest stars spread the message about the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle.
Those involved in the event included Victoria Justice, star of Victorious, and Keke Palmer, Ashley Argota, Matt Shively and Robbie Amell from True Jackson, VP.
In the past two year's Nickelodeon claims to have encouraged two million kids to pledge to get healthy.
Commenting on the initiative, Dr Stacey Devaux, assistant director of East End Psychological Services in Miller Place, told Three Village Patch, said that nowadays children take part in fewer outdoor play activities.
"Yet decades of research demonstrate that children who spend more time outdoors are more creative, handle stress better, and have greater respect for themselves and others," she added.
Outdoor play activities are shown to improve social, emotional and physical development for children.
