Outdoor play 'improves child behaviour'
23/07/2009 Playing outside can improve the behaviour of young children, it has been suggested.
According to child therapist Kimberley Clayton Blaine, getting outside into the garden can have dramatically positive effects on the mood of young kids, who become more cheerful when confronted with nature and all its possibilities.
Writing for SAF Baby.com, she said young children who play outside learn to share better, develop a more pleasant personality, become more worldly and even become great thinkers.
Ms Blaine said: "Sometimes children just need to run, jump, climb and play to accommodate their ever-growing body and mind."
She added that other benefits of outdoor play include fewer tantrums, better sleeping patterns and greater contentment when indoors.
A spokesperson for Play England recently claimed that outdoor play is an essential ingredient of a good childhood.
She said adults need to make time and space for children to play freely, to enable their personal development.
