Outdoor play activities 'are important for child development'
10/02/2010 Indoor and outdoor play activities are important for child development, according to one charity.
Parentline Plus said that that the benefits of outdoor play activities include improved social and communication skills.
The comments come after a study by researchers at the University of Montreal and the University of Minnesota found that the way parents interact with babies can have an effect on their children's development of executive functioning.
Doreen Jones, senior parent support co-ordinator at Parentline Plus, said that "spending time with children shows them they are important and loved".
"It allows children to make mistakes and find solutions building their confidence and self esteem... Play also provides the opportunities for children to build relationships with other children and adults," she explained.
The Sentuhan Bayu blog, which offers families advice on living a more sustainable life, also said recently that outdoor play activities were an easy way to get children to appreciate nature and improve eco-parenting skills.
