Outdoor play activities 'benefit both parents and children'
15/03/2010 Outdoor play activities have a number of benefits for both parents and children, according to one blog.
Families.com said that as the weather begins to improve mothers and fathers should make the effort to encourage their children to take part in outdoor play activities.
It recommended matching the amount of time a child spends watching TV or playing on the computer with the same amount of time playing out of doors.
"Free play outdoors grows kids' brains, and being outdoors calms children and gives them fresh air...It is also a very good way to stop doing chores for a while and just relax. Dishes don't follow you outdoors," the blog explained.
According to Play England, outdoor play activities can also reduce the chance of children committing crimes, offending and engaging in anti-social behaviour.
A report by the organisation said that supervised outdoor play activities can also help children of all backgrounds interact with each other.
