Outdoor play activities 'can help save the planet'
30/03/2010 Parents should encourage their kids to take part in outdoor play activities to help them understand the world around them, according to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).
The organisation recently held Earth Hour, when people from across the world were encouraged to switch off their lights to help combat climate change.
It suggested that turning off electronic toys and taking part in outdoor play activities was a great way to help save the planet after the event had ended.
Yeb Sano, climate change commissioner and Earth Hour national director, said: "The switch-off signifies the start of a very personal and lasting lifestyle change to minimise our ecological impacts and to do our bit for a more sustainable planet."
He added that the personal pledges people make can take many different forms.
Other suggestions included hosting an outdoor party, creating green initiatives in your local community and spending less time in front of the TV or computer.
A report in the Independent recently suggested that fathers are increasingly taking part in outdoor play activities through all-men's playgroups.
