Outdoor play activities 'have many benefits'
13/04/2010 There are many benefits associated with outdoor play activities, according to one expert.
Romain Levesque, owner of advice site details4life.com, explained that there are both physical and mental advantages for children who take part in outdoor play activities.
Writing for EzineArticles.com, the writer explained that play in natural surroundings was said to be particularly beneficial for children with Attention Deficit Disorder.
"Results [from studies] indicate that children function better than usual after activities in green settings and that the "greener" a child's play area, the less severe his or her attention deficit symptoms," the expert explained.
Outdoor play activities were also said to reduce the stress levels of all children, as well as helping them improve their social and communication skills.
The view echoes that of chief executive of Play Scotland Marguerite Hunter Blair published in an article in the Scotsman earlier this week.
She encouraged parents to take advantage of the warmer weather and lighter nights by allowing their children to spend more time taking part in outdoor play activities.
