Outdoor play activities area opens in Rochdale
23/06/2010 A new area for outdoor play activities is due to be opened in Rochdale today (June 23rd).
Castlemere Sure Start Children's Centre will be marking the occasion with a grand opening ceremony and an open afternoon for families.
The centre is inviting parents with children aged five and under to attend the afternoon, which will have a range of activities on offer, including collage making, den making and clay modelling.
Special guests and staff members will also be at the opening ceremony.
The children that visit the centre have also been involved in creating the area for outdoor play activities and have planted a small garden.
Outdoor play activities are known to have a number of benefits for children, including improved physical fitness.
A recent study by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that children who spend time taking part in sport or outdoor play activities are less likely to spend too much time in front of the TV.
The findings of the study were published in the journal Pediatrics.
