Outdoor play activities areas receive funding
16/06/2010 Children in Lancashire will soon be able to feel the benefits of outdoor play activities thanks to more than £200,000 of funding.
The money will be provided from a Lancashire Country Council funding scheme and go to nurseries located in Burnley, Pendel, and Rossendale, the Lancashire Telegraph reports.
Some £230,000 will be used for revamping outdoor play activity areas, with each facility putting its case forward to a group of councillors, childcare experts and NHS workers.
The funding is part of a £13 million pot which has been pledged to the county over the next three years.
A spokesperson for the council is quoted by the news provider as saying that those who were deemed to need to improve their early years' facilities were given priority.
"Each proposal will need to demonstrate value for money within their allocation before work can commence," he added.
A report produced recently by the Children's Commissioner and the Scottish Institute for Residential Childcare, which contained advice aimed at childcare professionals, suggested that children should be encouraged to take appropriate risks when taking part in outdoor play activities.
