Outdoor play activities help kids get a good night's sleep
04/03/2010 Taking part in outdoor play activities can go a long way to helping children sleep better at night, according to one expert.
Writing for the Mother Nature Network, Jenn Savedge, author of green parenting books, said that allowing kids to spend time in nature and take part in outdoor play activities will help them sleep more easily at bedtime.
"Studies show that fresh air and outdoor play during the day bring on the Zzz's at night," she explained.
Turning down the heat was also recommended for those who experience trouble sleeping, as was switching off the TV and computer at least one hour before bedtime.
A recent report by Play England found that supervised outdoor play activities can cut the risk of children offending or engaging in anti-social behaviour.
The organisation said that skilled workers organising playing outdoors can help those most at risk of committing crime and help children integrate with their peers.
