Outdoor play activities receive boost in Norwich
23/03/2010 Spaces for outdoor play activities in Norwich have received thousands of pounds of funding for improvements with more planned for next year.
In the past year £700,000 has been spent on the city's green spaces, which have been redesigned with the help of local residents, the Norwich Evening News reports.
Lea Bridges Park is just one of the places which has been refurbished under the scheme and now includes football goals, an aerial rope and a trampoline.
Paul Nicholson, the city council's communities and neighbourhood manager for west Norwich, said that the city's facilities were "enviable".
"They are important for children as they learn by playing, [which is] critical for their development, and they are also where all the sporting activities begin," he told the newspaper.
The importance of outdoor play activities has also been highlighted in a new survey from Play England.
It found that 83 per cent of parents believed that the next government should create policies which promote outdoor play activities.
