Parents 'should consult over play equipment purchases'
16/07/2009 Parents buying outdoor play equipment for their children should ensure they consult over the types of items they acquire, it has been claimed.
According to the Parenting.com blog, it is necessary to buy play equipment which is suited to the needs of the kids now and in the future.
Given that they are the ones who will be making use of it in the garden, mums and dads should see whether it is, perhaps, a swingball set, a table-tennis table or a slide that would be most appreciated, it is suggested.
The blog proposes that providing children with the toys most suited to their interests will encourage them to play out in the garden, rather than stay in watching television or getting square eyes on the computer.
Recent research from the National Trust indicated that almost eight in ten children wish they could spend more time playing outside alluding to the potential benefits of outdoor play equipment.
